#58 : Relationship Between E-Cigarettes (Vaping) Habits and Semen Parameters Among Patient Attending Sabahcare Fertility Centre
Abstract
Background and Aims: Exposure to nicotine is known to reduce sperm count and motility as well as increasing abnormal parameters. This study aimed to determine the differences of Seminal Fluid Analysis (SFA) between e-cigarettes users (vaping) and non-vaping patients attending SabahCare Fertility Centre. This study is still on-going, more samples are to be expected before the 12[Formula: see text] Congress of ASPIRE Method: Data is collected by handing out questionnaire to male patient doing SFA in the centre. Samples are examined according to WHO laboratory manual for the examination and processing of human semen, sixth edition (WHO, 2021) criteria. Sperm parameters we applied are normozoospermia, oligozoospermia (sperm concentration <14 × 106/ml), azoospermia (no spermatozoa in the ejaculate), asthenozoospermia (sperm motility and/or progressive motility are below the reference value). Chi-Square test analysis will be performed to determine the significance level of the results. Results: Currently, a total of 38 sample sizes are collected. 60.5% are in the normal SFA quality and 39.5% are in the abnormal SFA quality. Conclusion: Sample collection to determine if using e-cigarettes (vaping) affects semen quality among SabahCare Fertility Centre are still ongoing.
