Objective Exploring the relationship between sleep disorders and sarcopenia in terms of both sleep duration and sleep quality. Methods A survey was conducted on the elderly population who came to the main city and districts of Chongqing Municipality from March 2023 to August 2023 for medical checkups in a total of five community health centers.Sleep quality was assessed by the Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI) scale.Sleep duration was categorized as short sleep(0.05).Logistic regression equations showed that the prevalence of sarcopenia in older women who slept longer than those with a normal sleep duration was 2.486 times higher when not adjusted for covariates. The prevalence of sarcopenia in older women who slept longer was 2.818 times that of those with normal sleep duration, after adjusting for age, body mass index, marital history, work status, education, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. In contrast, there was no correlation between sleep duration and sarcopenia in older male subjects(P>0.05). Conclusion Elderly people who sleep longer are more likely to suffer from sarcopenia than those who sleep a normal amount of time, and this finding is more pronounced in women.
