PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF THE COALBED METHANE EXPLORATION IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Abstract

According to the preliminary estimates, there are hitherto unused resources of coalbed methane in the Czech Republic and real possibilities of their exploitation exist. Based on the official data on the size of coal reserves in the Czech Republic, which include coal reserves at potentially exploitable depths, the resour-ces of coalbed methane are estimated at 100 - 500 billion m3 in the Czech part of the Upper Silesian Basin. Here, other sources of coalbed methane may exist below the level of exploitable depth (1,200 - 1,500 m). Other resou-rces can be expected in the Central Bohemian coal basins as well as in the Rosice Coal District.
