Le festin de Balthazar

Abstract

Here we propose to interpret the story of “Belshazzar’s Feast” (chapter 5 in the biblical book of Daniel) as a screenplay inspired by the ancient Syrian practice of the “marzeah”, through a rereading of the text that emphasizes the elements of analogy and of resemblance with this ancient Syrian institution.
