Femmes et espace domestique dans l’histoire du logement social au Brésil des années 1940 et 1950
Abstract
This article focuses on the role of women in public housing programs implemented by the Brazilian state in the mid-20th century. I trace and put into perspective their place in the context of workers’ housing, particularly in working-class housing estates, in two ways: as agents (producers, authors or mediators) and as inhabitants. I try to show the possibilities and contradictions of public housing as an option for professional integration for women, and I propose a reflection on female inhabitants and representations of popular housing and the feminine.
