Infraoptic anterior cerebral artery: A case report of an unusual anatomical variation
Abstract
Background and importance: According to the literature, infraoptic course of the anterior cerebral artery is very rare. Imaging of very rare anatomical features may be of interest. Clinical presentation: In a routine autopsy, we found that the right anterior cerebral artery originates from the internal carotid artery below the right optic nerve and crosses anterior to the optic cross to reach the longitudinal fissure. This article outlines the anatomic features of anterior communicating artery complex-associated aneurysms, the possible high morbidity, and implications for surgical planning or endovascular treatment, and discusses embryologic considerations. Conclusion: Although an infraoptic A1 is a rare anomaly, understanding this variation is crucial for various surgical and diagnostic procedures involving this region.
