LOS PASQUINES DE HUICHAPAN, EL CURA TORAL Y EL ESPACIO PÚBLICO (1794–1821)

Abstract

Unos pasquines obscenos alteraron la tranquilidad de un pueblo de Nueva España en tiempos de la revolución francesa. El cura atacado buscó responder con la prédica y la justicia a un desafío público. Casi veinte años después el mismo clérigo se enfrentaría en términos semejantes al movimiento de independencia. A partir de este caso, el artículo reflexiona sobre los cambios y continuidades de los fenómenos de publicidad y en particular sobre el papel de los pasquines como detonadores del debate público.THE LEAFLETS OF HUICHAPAN, PRIEST TORAL AND PUBLIC SPHERE (1794–1821)Some obscene leaflets (pasquines) disturbed a small-town of New Spain at the time of the French Revolution. The attacked priest tried to answer the public challenge by preaching and asking for justice. Almost twenty years later the same priest would face in similar terms the independence movement. From this case, the article reflects on the changes and continuities of public opinion and in particular on the role of the pamphlets as triggers of public debate.
