Rural High School in the territories of agrarian reform settlements of Abelardo Luz-SC
Abstract
This article is the result of a PhD thesis in Education of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) which aimed to understand the configuration and organization of high school courses in agrarian reform settlements, specifically in Abelardo Luz-SC, focusing on the courses at Paulo Freire High School (EEM) and the Federal Institute Advanced Campus of Santa Catarina (IFC), linked to the state education and the federal education networks in the José Maria settlement. We sought to know and identify the limits and possibilities that the courses in these territories present for the formation of rural youth, from 1996 to 2018. The methodological procedures used were bibliographic research, document analysis and field research – by means of interviews, questionnaires and observation recorded in a field notebook. Through the research, we highlight that the materialization of the EEM - Paulo Freire and the IFC - advanced campus of Abelardo Luz was carried out by means of the struggle and organization of the settled families and that, although with different characteristics, it is centred on the students, their history and the objective conditions of live of the youth. The institutions demonstrate an openness to think about actions that allow the youth to enter, remain and complete their courses, also to reflect on their conditions of existence in this territory and recognize the possibilities of engaging in the struggle for an education for human emancipation.
