At the top of a real situation of planetary emergency, education is the best ally in the global struggle to ensure sustainable development. In order to implement the Decade of the Education for a Sustainable Future, the research in science education and the corresponding innovation in teaching and teacher education, are among of the strongest support, comprehensive and effective. Part of our contribution, presented in this article, was materialized in the development of a set of studies situated in the theoretical framework which sustains STS education and inserts in the ambit of the education for environmental sustainability: transports and mobility, the use of water, the hungry in the world and biodiversity preservation. The wager has been directed tothe primary education, by the design of pedagogical proposals, validated by experts as well as in classroom, and used in the teaching and as tools for pre-service and inservice teacher education.
