Abstract

Paul and the Asiarchs. Acts 19:31 in the Controversy of HistoriansIn the discussion about the Asiarchs' office in cities of Asia Minor during the imperial age, Acts 19:31 has rarely been employed as a source text in its own right. The present article is a contribution from the field of New Testament Exegesis to the discussion among historians. Its aim is to analyze this verse in the literary context of the Book of Acts and to evaluate its impact on the quest for the Asiarchs and their involvement in the provincial imperial cult.
