The Investigation of Empathetic Tendency Level and Cognitive Flexibility Level Among Individuals Having Ongoing Process of Contested Divorce According to Some Variables
Abstract
This is a quantitative research aimed to analyze the investigation of empathetic tendency level and cognitive flexibility level among individuals having ongoing process of contested divorce according to some variables at Anadolu Justice Palace, in the city of Istanbul. The population of the research is composed by 165 individuals 98 female (% 59,4) and 67 male (% 40,6) having ongoing process of contested divorce in family courts number 1, 2, 3, ..., 23 of Istanbul Anadolu Justice Palace in the years 2018-2019. Several questions were asked to the participants via Personal Information Form, then Empathetic Tendency Scale and Cognitive Flexibility Scale were given. In data analysis SPSS 24.0 was used, in order to identify suitability of the scores to normal distribution kurtosis and skewness were analyzed. It was seen that kurtosis and skewness were normal, and it was also found that scores of the scales were normally distributed. In this context, parametric test methods were used for the hypothesis testings. T-test was used for analyzing whether the scores would show significant difference according to sociodemoghraphic characteristics, and ANOVA was used for the analysis of k-grouped (k>2) variables. Pearson Correlation Test was used in the analysis of relationship between scores. Findings having through these analysis show that significant relationship between empathetic tendency and the issues of gender, having a job, party deciding to divorce. It was found out that there is a significant relationship between individuals’ cognitive flexibility level and gender, age, educational level, his/her spouse’s educational level, type of the marriage, number of children, party deciding to divorce, the level of understanding other party’s expectations through divorce process.
