ASSOCIATION OF NURSES' EMPATHIC TENDENCY AND ATTITUDES TO AGEISM TOWARD OLDER ADULTS

Objective: This study aims to determine nurses in correlate with their levels of empathic tendencies and attitudes to ageism towards older adults. Material and Method: A descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional, with a convenience sample of 132 Turkey nurses was conducted in April- June 2017. Structured question form, Scale of Empathic Tendency and Fraboni Scale of Ageism were applied to nurses. Results: Model explained that 6% of the variance to ageism in regression. In this model, factors that remained strongly associated with FSA score were gender, obtaining information about the elderly from the media, willingness to care for the elderly and empathic tendency (p lt;0.05). Conclusion: This study found that ageism and empathic tendencies of nurses were at moderate level. Trainings should be organized to increase the empathy tendencies of nurses.
