AN ANALYTIC OUTLOOK OF THE MADRIGAL MORO LASSO AL MIO DUOLO BY GESUALDO DA VENOSA

Abstract

The analysis of the madrigal Moro lasso al mio duolo reveals the melancholic, thoughtful and grieving atmosphere, gene­rating shady, silent, sometimes dark soundscapes. Gesualdo shapes the poliphony through chromatic licenses, in order to create a tense musical discourse, permanently yearning for stability and balance amidst a harmonic construction lacking any attempt for resolution. Thus the strange harmonies of Gesualdo are shaped, giving birth to a unique musical style, full of dissonances and endless musical tension.
