The russian writers of the Enlightenment period about history and historians: Mikhail Muravyov The paper compares the theoretical articles by Mikhail Nikitich Muravyov (1757-1805): Studying history, About history and historians, The historians of antiquity, and “The dialogues of the Dead” (22 prose works on historical and literary themes, related to pedagogical activity of the author). History is treated by Muravyov as a lesson and “a teacher of life”. An interpretive context are the works of the European historians of the Enlightenment period (Edward Gibbon, William Robertson, Adam Ferguson) and the works by Nikolay Karamzin (Letters of a Russian traveller, the notes, History of the Russian State).
