Russian Sociology in the post-Soviet Period: Status and Problems of Development

The paper analyzes the role and importance of sociology as a separate field of scientific knowledge and as a demanded profession. It covers the training system for sociological specialists, with its crucial problems pointed out, namely the obvious lack of quality in teaching the subject, as well as the gap between sociology that is taught from actual scientific research, which is among the main reasons for the lack of developed professional culture in modern Russian sociology. It is specifically mentioned that the sociological community is to increase quality of Russian sociology and to return to the leading position in the world, as during the first part of the 20th century. The paper states that one of the conditions for sociology to cooperate with the government is a considerable increase in the quality of research results presented by sociologists, as well as regular participation of government officials in realization of sociological projects. In the context of modern development of sociological research, the development of national sociological institutes comes to the fore, with research being able to develop unique methodologies and theories of sociological research, presenting the global community with original and unusual scientific papers.
