The article by Maryna Protas explores the sociological aspects of the art-being of a new stratum of modern society - the precariat, to which artists and cultural figures belong in the context of a conflict of global capitalism with the strategies for the development of nation-states’ heterogeneous democracy capable of forming qualitative public spaces, including artistic multicultural oecumenas. Drawing on the broad argumentation base of Western sociology, in particular key works by G. Standing, R. Dahl, F. Saunders, M. Lazzarato and others, the author tries to elucidate the social mechanisms of the total spread of contemporary forms of art, when art creativity becomes commodified, and the long-term prospects for a culture of the future lose their relevance, as the flexible market subordinates to its mercantile laws the intangible spiritual activity and artistic formation of a society still dreaming of going over to the Post-Fordist phase of its development.
