This essay surveys the contribution of feminist criticism in the second half of the 20th century, mostly but not exclusively from the perspectives of British and U.S. feminism. It examines three major areas of research: first, women as writers (i.e. the issues surrounding women’s creativity); second, women as readers (i.e. as interpreting subjects that identify with or resist the text’s ideology); and finally, women as literary critics (i.e. a variety of approaches to women’s roles and problems in academia).
