Pathogenesis of epiretinal fibrosis (ERF) development is an urgent problem in ophthalmology at present. There is no a universal theory, which helps to explain the ERF pathogenesis. According to the current data the most active proliferation of cellular elements may occur in the retina before the epiretinal membrane (ERM) can be clinically detected. The surgical ERM removal is an effective method for an elimination of traction impact on the retina. There is no effective and harmless way of postoperative macular edema treatment after surgical ERM removal till present.
