This work aims to examine the impact of the management of Private Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) on the conditions in which the teaching is carried out in these institutions. The study was conducted with professors at a university and two colleges in Rio de Janeiro. The theoretical framework includes the study of the flexibility of labor relations in general and, in particular, the flexibility afforded to teachers' work in the light of management models of private HEIs. The methodology chosen for this study is based on a qualitative approach. Field research, using semi-structured interviews scripts was performed. The subjects investigated in this study are teachers and course coordinators at the three institutions studied. It was concluded from this study that there is a direct relationship between the recent process of commodification of higher education with the precariousness of working conditions of teachers because apparently, in this market, the main goal of organizations is to maximize profit, instead of the consequences generated over other actors involved (students and teachers) . Therefore, to maximize profits, even if the service is being offered with lower quality, are reduced spending on teacher qualifications and salaries, among others.
