The goal of this study was to carry out an analysis of the characteristics of the break-up process in a sample of divorced people including variables such as length of marriage, use of mediation services and time elapsed since divorce. Anumber of mediation centres and associations of divorced people participated in the project. The results showed that a closer contact with the ex–spouse was related to a shorter duration of marital conflict and with the use of the mediation services. These findings are discussed along with other results.
