This study analyzes the productive structure of the State of Santa Catarina from the perspective of Economic Complexity, comparing the Santa Catarina productive matrix with the other Brazilian federative units. We try to characterize the productive area of Santa Catarina by discriminating the products manufactured according to their complexity for each mesoregion. The article tries to answer the following questions: 1) Do the main products exported by Santa Catarina show, in general, what degree of complexity? 2) What is the complexity and diversity presented by the Santa Catarina economy, when compared to the export tariff of the other Brazilian states? 3) Which Santa Catarina mesoregions present a more diversified export agenda with more sophisticated products? After answering these questions, the article concludes that there is great economic differentiation among the Santa Catarina mesoregions. The productive matrix of the state is characterized by the presence of small poles of greater Economic Complexity, located in few municipalities. On the other hand, Santa Catarina is well positioned when compared to the rest of the country, with considerable productive diversity and greater development of the sectors of machinery, chemicals and instruments, considered the most complex.
