Political and Social Conflicts in South Sudan: The Post-Independence Challenges

Objectives This article investigates the socio-political challenges in South Sudan, its main causes and outcomes of the civil war crisis. Apart from that, efforts of regional and international organizations such as African Union (AU), United Nations (UN), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), their individual and collective involvement regarding search for last solution during the ongoing civil war will be explored . Material and methods This research is based on qualitative data content analysis. Results Better relations and good will between President Kiir and Vice President Machar, are crucial for the solution, who are responsible and have great influence in the process of violence and politics of ethnic confrontation. Political leaders are also responsible to control their own armed forces and comply with the cessation of hostilities. Conclusions Economic crisis, hunger, psychological and physical damages on women and girls as well as refugee crises are only some aspects of the consequences of the crises. Key for the solution of the problem is in the hands of the peoples of the South Sudan, particularly the leaders of South Sudan. Efforts of the international Community, especially, the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) the African Union (AU) and The United Nations (UN) to end the crises in South Sudan have relative peace and stability, for the last solution this organizations still have the significant role to play.
