The Structural Peculiarities of English Siteonyms

Abstract

The structural peculiarities of English siteonyms are outlined in this paper. In particular, the theoretical background of categorizing the siteonyms of the English sector of the Internet into different groups is thoroughly studied. Some of the existing classifications are cited, combined, and adapted to face the challenges posed by the novelty of this field of onomastics. Three possible structural types are singled out, each containing a certain amount of subtypes. Statistical data concerning the structure of the most frequently visited siteonyms has been gathered and analyzed.
