Sobre la conservació del fons antic a les biblioteques regionals de les comunitats autònomes
Abstract
Objectiu: conèixer els principals aspectes relacionats amb la conservació de les col·leccions de fons antic de les catorze biblioteques regionals de les comunitats autònomes. -- Metodologia: disseny d'un qüestionari, basat en l'estudi dels principis, pautes, estàndards que guien la conservació i preservació de col·leccions de fons antic. El qüestionari està format per trenta-nou preguntes distribuïdes en set apartats, que han contestat totes les biblioteques (entre novembre de 2018 i gener de 2019). S'avaluen aspectes de la gestió de la conservació de les col·leccions de fons antic i se’n descriuen els trets principals comparant-los amb dos models de referència (de la Unesco i de la Rebiun). -- Resultats: les respostes al qüestionari aporten dades relatives a diferents aspectes: si compten amb normatives pròpies que guiïn la conservació del fons antic (sis biblioteques); si utilitzen normatives o estàndards aliens (vuit biblioteques); si han definit un pla de preservació preventiva (cinc biblioteques); si empren caixes tancades de material no àcid per a fullets o un altre tipus de materials especials de petit format (deu biblioteques); si compten amb mesures de control de la il·luminació artificial (deu biblioteques); si apliquen mesures de control d'humitat (tretze biblioteques); si han fixat condicions per a la consulta dels usuaris (dotze biblioteques) i requisits per a la manipulació de les obres per part dels usuaris(nou biblioteques); si tenen projectes de digitalització (tretze biblioteques) i plans de restauració (dues biblioteques), etc. També s'han establert classificacions de les biblioteques segons la seva posició quant al compliment dels models de referència, les Guidelines de la Unesco (Castella-la Manxa, Catalunya, Galícia, Madrid, etc.) i les Normes de la Rebiun (Catalunya, Castella i Lleó, Murcia, Extremadura, etc.), i en relació amb la política de conservació que reflecteixen les respostes donades al qüestionari (Catalunya, Castella-la Manxa, Madrid, etc.). Objective: To examine the main aspects of the activity undertaken to conserve the rare book and manuscript collections in the Spanish autonomous communities’ fourteen regional libraries. -- Methodology: Based on a study of the principles and standards used to guide conservation activities in the preservation of rare book and manuscript collections, a questionnaire comprising 39 questions in seven sections was administered to the libraries in question between November 2018 and January 2019. The questionnaire assessed how the libraries managed their conservation activities and compared their performance using two reference models: the UNESCO Library and the Red de Bibliotecas Universitarias Españolas (Spanish University Libraries Network, REBIUN). -- Results: The study showed the following: six libraries use in-house regulations to guide their conservation activities; eight adopt regulations or standards published by an external authority; five have a preventive preservation plan; ten employ closed book boxes made of acid-free board to store pamphlets and other special, small-format materials; ten control the artificial lighting of their holdings; thirteen control humidity levels; twelve have general protocols for users wishing to consult the library and nine, book handling protocols; thirteen conduct digitisation activities; and two have restoration plans. The libraries were also classified by their degree of observance of the guidelines of the two reference networks, the UNESCO/PERSIST Guidelines (the regional libraries in the autonomous communities of Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Galicia and Madrid, amongst others) and REBIUN’s Normas (the regional libraries in Castilla and León, Catalonia, Extremadura and Murcia, amongst others) and by their conservation policy as this is reflected in their answers in the questionnaire r (Catalonia, Castilla–La Mancha and Madrid, amongst others).
