Determinarea – o problematică a limbii române contemporane

Abstract

Through this article, we propose a synthesis of the main studies on determination in Romanian language, revealing the convergent or divergent perspectives adopted by the authors. At the same time, relying on arguments and facts of language itself (especially the problem of the article as a determinative morpheme), we include the category of determination, which is usually considered an issue of morphology, in an interdisciplinary sphere of concerns, engaging at least two complementary directions: morphology and semantics, respectively. Transversally, we debate the consistency of the theories that claim determination is a pure grammatical category of the noun, and stress a more plausible viewpoint, namely, to conceive determination as a semantic category.
