Rural Exodus: young people's perspectives on living in rural areas/Êxodo Rural: perspectivas dos jovens sobre a vivência em meio rural

Abstract

The migration of the rural population to the urban zone is a phenomenon that has attracted the attention of researchers from the most diverse study areas in order to attenuate the effect of the displacement on the overcrowding of the urban centers and the discontinuity of the rural family activity. Aiming at these factors, the objective was to evaluate the perception of young people from the community of Piau, Piranhas district, Alagoas about the obstacles of residing in rural areas today. A hundred people were interviewed, the research was carried out in schools of the state network, through the application of a semi structured questionnaire, in a nominal sequence containing fifteen questions in the open and closed categories. Data were analyzed, grouped by category and similarity of responses and later expressed in relative frequency. It was found that 63% of young people like to live in the countryside, but 92% reported that if they had the opportunity, they left the field because they found difficulties in continuing education, lack of opportunities, such as employment, access to credit and land. Migration by young people is aimed at finding better living conditions, since agricultural activities are marginalized and used in phrases constructed to encourage / encourage continuity of study and / or search for jobs outside the rural community.
