Return migratory movements from Spain are undergoing significant changes in the last decade. This work analyzes the current fluctuating trajectory that is taking place after the so-called ‘boom of returns’ during the hardest years of the crisis. The methodology used combines the quantitative analysis of statistical data with qualitative techniques that help to interpret the figures and to investigate the causes that lead immigrants to return or, conversely, to remain in Spain. The main contribution of the research is the analysis and interpretation of the changing evolution of recent foreign migration balances, both in the countries of destination and in the autonomous communities of origin.
