Conflitti e contraddizioni nell’Europa degli anni Trenta narrate da Zou Taofen 邹韬奋 (1895-1944)

Abstract

Following the fall of the empire and the establishment of the Republic of China (1912), the Chinese borders suddenly opened up to more intensive and profitable exchanges with the outside world. As a result, an increasing number of Chinese were able to travel to Europe, and Chinese travel literature production about Europe boomed in the 1920s and 1930s. One of these travellers was Zou Taofen (1895-1944), a journalist forced to leave China in 1933. He authored a three-volume book entitled Messages from an Unending Wandering. Zou was one of the most famous journalists of his era. In his overseas “Messages”, he was able to detect the conflicts and contradictions lurking behind the prosperity of Europe, to reveal the dark side of the society at the time and the exploitation caused by capitalism.
