This article identifies the concepts of violence among school coordinators and characterized their actions to confront the phenomenon within the school. We apply questionnaires to ten pedagogical coordinators of schools in Recife-PE. The responses revealed that, for them, violence is characterized as physical, moral, verbal, committed relationships and integrity of students. She is due to the absence of family both in regard to domestic issues and school, hence, the coordinators said they were powerless to deal with some situations, because they have relied on family support. The results reaffirm the role of the school as a diverse field, with students only actors in this complex system, not "to blame". We believe, from the practices described, which can make school a protective environment by sensitizing the families and the school community about the problem of violence.
