This article examines the rationalities at play in the circulation of embryos based on ethnographic fieldwork and interviews with participants of Snowflakes embryo adoption programme in California, United States at a Christian-based adoption agency. We argue that Chantal Collard, Shireen Kashmeri “De embriones congelados a siempre familias”… such programmes do not simply evince politics of life, but reformulate kinship institutions in selective ways as well. We examine placing families who put embryos up for adoption, and adopting families who gestate and give birth to their own adoptive baby. We found that the logic for the circulation of embryos is different between these two groups and show the range of variation within each group.
