Based on a pre-established concept of idiom, which comes from an accurate scientific research in the field of Lexicology, our proposal is to analyze idioms in English which have a name of an aninal in at least one of theirs lexical items. Thus, we have noticed a great structural diversity through which idioms are represented in English language and we have also compared them with the correspondent idioms in Portuguese, especially in peculiarities related to the type of translation. Keywords: idiom, animal names, structure, translation.
