Core training still promises more than it can keep
Abstract
Introduction: This is a rebuttal to «Comment to: Core training promises more than it can hold: A review of current literature and practical experience», by Sæterbakken and Andersen. Main part: Core training has its roots in the clinic, and we discuss how this can affect our perception of the spine and the need to exercise the core muscles. We further explain and discuss our choices of cited literature and the methodological challenges of research on core training. Conclusion: By responding to Sæterbakken and Andersen's comments, we question the purpose(s) of core training and the preoccupation with core muscles. We keep our perception of a mismatch between expectations, scope, and time spent on core training on the one hand, and scientific documentation and our practical experiences on the other.
