This article aims to present theoretical and analytical contributions of how photography can be a methodology for the cultural “translation process”, related to the epistemological scope of the sociology of absences, proposed by the sociologist Boaventurade Sousa Santos and, as a consequence, expand the photovoice methodology, created by Wang and Burris (1997). It is intended to expand the referred methodology making it more robust in the research field, by analyzing photography as a subjective expression, in a transdisciplinary way, from inflections connected with the epistemology of semiotics, of the “indiciary paradigm, as well as through the concepts of the "optical unconscious", the "indiciary paradigm" and the "photography-expression", so that they can collaborate to strengthen the methodological of dialogical practices and photography in the field of action research
