This article proposes to highlight the intertwining political, linguistic and didactic issues underlying the professional training of young allophones in the particular educational context of vocational training centers, through the presentation of ethnographic research in a VTC specializing in the building trades. The significant increase in the number of allophone apprentices in recent years is due more to socio-economic and political reasons than to educational ones. This leads us to question the language component of training for the building trades, and the possibilities for educational teams to support these young people in acquiring professional skills that enable them to move around in a complex language space.
