EDUCATION UNDER OCCUPATION: OBLIGATIONS OF THE OCCUPYING POWER

Abstract

Abstract:This article is part of the series Education under Occupation, which explores the legal responsibilities of Israel with respect to the Palestinian population living under the military occupation. In the first part, we considered the framework of International Humanitarian Law, including a short tour through its history and applicable normative bodies. In the present article we will explore the obligations of the occupying power with specific attention to children’s access to education and we will present data and statistics reflecting daily restrictions to the realisation of the right to education. This study pertains to the situation in Israel and Palestine, specifically to the military occupation of Palestine by Israeli forces. Abstract:Este artículo forma parte de la serie Educación bajo la Ocupación, que explora las responsabilidades legales de Israel con respecto a la población palestina que vive bajo la ocupación militar. En la primera parte, consideramos el marco del Derecho Internacional Humanitario, incluyendo un breve recorrido por su historia y los cuerpos normativos aplicables. En el presente artículo exploraremos las obligaciones de la potencia ocupante prestando especial atención al acceso de los niños a la educación y presentaremos datos y estadísticas que reflejan las restricciones diarias a la realización del derecho a la educación. Este estudio se refiere a la situación en Israel y Palestina, concretamente a la ocupación militar de Palestina por las fuerzas israelíes.
