Abstract

Read online

Mies van der Rohe, during his stay in Holland, visited and studied the work of Hendrik Petrus Berlage. He read his publications and paid particular attention to the author’s reflection on architecture as a construction, a clear construction. Through Mies’ immersion in the world of Berlage it seemed that the notion of Baukunst started to become part of his philosophy. If, in his search for truth, he found in Romano Guardini the philosophical foundation of his architecture, then in Berlage he found the ability to be able to put this philosophy into practice.
