The lack of research around the application of model-based practice, and specifically, the Sport Education (SE) model in students with intellectual impairments (II), makes it necessary to evaluate its application. The aim of this study was twofold: (i) To know the characteristics of the application of the SEM for students with II enrolled in specific centers, and (ii) To study the perception of the teachers in charge of its application in their first experience with the SE. Four special education centers (SEC) participated, included in the Healthy School Projects in Castilla-La Mancha (Spain). The teachers' perception and the fidelity of the application of the model were evaluated using two questionnaires such as auto informs. Each auto informs was coded and categorized, following an inductive-focused content analysis through the category generation process. The results showed a positive perception in relation to learning, motivation, and the feeling of usefulness and competence that it generates in students, especially compared to other teaching styles. Likewise, they pointed out that for a correct application it was necessary to adapt the roles and materials to the characteristics of the students. Lastly, the adaptation carried out by teachers maintains much of the most important features of the model. In conclusion, this work shows the potential and feasibility of the implementation of the SE for students with II.
