Le "machair", symbole de la résistance victorieuse à la colonisation de l'Ecosse septentrionale
Abstract
This article introduces the reality of the machair as a major notion of resistance to privatisation and of freedom from colonisation. Surveying the origin, the history and the present state of the machair is a way of highlighting the vital importance of a pollution-free environment. In this “area study” approach, history, geography and liberalism meet the linguistic issue and the role of literature to connect safeguarding a sound environment with protecting social life. The modest eroding machair is more than a metaphor of a spot of friction between the Celtic and Anglo-Saxon worlds.
