The ever greater Chinese economic power is transforming the international profile of the People’s Republic of China and its perception of the world. Although the change is gradual, there are signs of a new Chinese way both of interpreting international relations and of assuming a greater degree of diplomatic activism in the case of its policy toward other Asian countries. Taking this premise as his starting point, the author analyzes China’s relations with the great world powers, especially the United States, and the countries in its vicinity.
