Country Council, Alexandru Marghiloman and the Union of Bessarabia with Romania
Abstract
From the perspective of history, it is clear that Alexandru Marghiloman linked his name to the first of the three acts of the Great Union of 1918: Bessarabia on March 27, followed by Bukovina on November 28 and Transylvania on December 1. The Romanian political leaders – from Iasi, Bucharest and Chisinau – were not overwhelmed by the pressure of these huge difficulties, but managed in 1918 to find solutions and concrete ways to dominate the situation and promote the fundamental interests of the Romanian people. In this complicated context, Alexandru Marghiloman came to the forefront of political life in Romania and beyond.
