The article deals with the interelationships between J. M. Coetzee’s Diary of a Bad Year (2007), Michel Laub’s Diary of the Fall (2011), and the performing arts of space, with its installations, as presented in the Kassel’s Documenta. The essay investigates and analyses what these three acts of language have in common. The conclusion of this effort of interpretation sheds light on their representation of an aesthetic and ethical intervention of great quality. All of the works discuss and promote a search for liberty and democracy in a world dismantled by the upheavel of fundamentalism and terrorism.
