Sufragantes parroquiales y electores. La apertura relativa del mundo de la política electoral en Antioquia, 1821-1848

Abstract

This paper examines the electoral participation inAntioquia during the first years of republican life,in order to establish the scope of the political openness fostered by the implementation of the so-called popular sovereignty. The main focus of the paper is on parish voters and electors, as well as on the debates on criteria to be met in order to be elected for representative positions, with the aim of showing the validity of ancient powers and values in an unprecedented political sphere driven by the influence of republican and liberal ideas.
