Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the elderly population. Recent research provides evidence for the hypothesis of the intestinal origin of Parkinson's disease. Intestinal flora can affect the central nervous system through two-way communication between the gut and brain. Abnormal microflora plays an important role in Parkinson's disease by causing abnormal aggregation of α-synuclein. Parkinson's disease drugs can interact with intestinal microflora, and specific microflora is related to clinical characteristics of Parkinson's disease. Improving the composition of intestinal microflora can reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease and delay the disease progression. In this article, the pathophysiology, clinical features and treatment of abnormal microflora in Parkinson's disease were reviewed.
