Institutional factors of differentiation of tourists’ social practices in Russia
Abstract
Background. The topic of differentiation of social practices among domestic tourists in Russia is relevant in modern society, where more and more people are realizing the importance of travel and leisure for their physical and mental health. Interest in tourism is growing, but people choose different types of tourism, which is influenced not only by personal preferences, but also by various institutional factors. Studying these factors can help tourism companies and regional authorities develop more effective strategies to attract tourists and meet their needs for leisure and travel. The purpose of the study is to analyze institutional factors that influence the choice of social practices among domestic tourists in Russia. Materials and methods. To achieve the set goal, a secondary analysis of research on the problem of differentiation of social practices among tourists was conducted. The empirical basis included author’s research conducted among the population of different regions of Russia (survey n = 996 (2022)). Theoretical methods such as a system and institutional approaches and a method of comparison were applied. Results. The results of the study show that social practices among domestic tourists in Russia differ depending on institu-tional factors such as infrastructure development, government policy, marketing and promotion, cultural heritage, age, income, and tourist interests. Conclusions. Infrastructure development, marketing campaigns, cultural and historical heritage, accessibility, and cost are key factors that determine the differentiation of social practices among tourists in Russia. This research can contribute to the sociology of tourism and the study of wider social processes and trends in society.
