Performance Rates of Sudanese States in the WISC-III

This research aimed to investigate the performance in Sudanese States as well as the quantitative and qualitative categorization of IQ. To achieve this aim the WISC-III was administered. It consists of 13 sub-tests, 7 are performance and 6 are verbal to a representative sample of 1460 participants selected by stratified random method from most states from the age group 6-16 years (males 50.4% and females 49.6%). The study showed that there were differences in the performance of the WISC-III between states. Gazira State obtained the highest scores (105.9) points. The rank of states from high to low was as follows: Gazira, Khartoum, River Nile, The Northern, N. Kurdofan, and Darfur. The difference between some States was significant. It showed that IQ is normally distributed in the Sudan and the percentage of participants with high and low abilities were 1.8% and 2.8%, respectively. Finally, two recommendations were made dealing with social and economic developments and education of the less developed states as well as two suggestions dealing with investigating two variables namely gender and socioeconomic status. Additionally, some future implications were provided especially the application of UCMAS and CoRT in the states with low performance in the WISC-III.
