The coastal aquifer La Yarada, is located at the head of the Atacama Desert in northern Chile and is one of the driest places on Earth, in this work seeks to establish the current and future challenges to achieve water security. The documentary review of the executed and future hydraulic projects linked to the aquifer system and its water legislation was carried out. We can confirm that the water security in this aquifer has not been reached, the annual water balance is becoming more negative and the water quality is deteriorating progressively. The incorporation of water into the aquifer from water transfer from neighboring basins (Maure, Uchusuma, Sama and Locumba), induction of water infiltration in the humid zone, sewage treatment, desalination of sea water or water must be established. the freshwater-saltwater interface.
