A Modified Sinus Laser Therapy for Pilonidal Sinus mSiLaT: Personal Experience

Background:Pilonidal sinus disease is frequently seen among adolescents effecting the sacrococcygeal region. It is considered a disabling disease to those effected with a substantial effect on their quality of life. Surgical management of sacrococcygeal pilonidal disease remains debatable, with the optimal surgical approach is yet to be determined. The ideal surgical management of pilonidal disease should allow a quick recovery, minimally effecting lifestyle in the postoperative period, early return to normal daily activities and a low recurrence rate. Methods: Herein, we present our experience in surgical management of pilonidal sinus disease using a noble technology known as modified sinus laser therapy mSiLaT technique.Results: After 1 year follow up, no recurrences were documented.Conclusion: mSiLaT is an attractive option with promising results. mSiLaT procedure for pilonidal disease is an emerging minimally invasive procedure that can change the everlasting debate in surgical management of pilonidal disease.Keywords: Minimally invasive surgery, Laser surgery, Pilonidal sinus disease
