Both Pascal and Camus dared to think about the limits of men during historical moments of hegemony of rationalism. Their inquiries lead us to the contestation of important philosophical concepts, such as reason, justice and history, casting a serious suspicion on the foundations of Western civilization. In both authors, there is an implacable critique of the rationalist aspirations and a concern regarding the predicaments and frustrations resulted from the choices of modernity.
