Goal setting and motivation within rehabilitation with specific focus on stroke
Abstract
This article is a discussion of goal setting and motivation within rehabilitation and attempts to translate existing knowledge implications for clinical practice. Different ethical paradoxes regarding the goal setting process is explained. ICF´s personal factors are linked to motivation, which is a emotional process that can be affected internally as well as externally. Client centered communication is introduced as a potential tool in the goal setting process to catalyze emotional as well as cognitive motivational resources. The article is written for physiotherapist´s and other health professionals working in rehabilitation as well as neurorehabilitation.
