The role of the Information Technology (IT) manager stands out for the competitive advantage of organizations, in proportion to the market demands the entrepreneurial competencies to transform information into knowledge, providing a market differential. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the entrepreneurial competencies of information technology managers. The research adopted the qualitative method of descriptive nature. Interviews were conducted with ten information technology managers, with the support of a semistructured script. For the data treatment, the content analysis was used. The results showed that the exercise of the entrepreneurial competence of commitment had influence in the development of the entrepreneurial competence of strategy. The action of conceptual entrepreneurial competence influenced the development of entrepreneurial competencies: strategic and opportunity. In case of the strategic entrepreneurial competence, the influence in the development of the entrepreneurial competencies was observed: administrative, commitment and relationship. This research considers the importance of presenting a model of entrepreneurial competence for the empirical field of information technology science, in order that its educational programs can meet the needs of companies in constant pursuit of competitive advantage. In addition, research strengthens conceptual and empirical studies on the entrepreneurial competencies of IT managers.
